Howard emailed to report the sad news of David Witty's death. David started at MGS in 1951, leaving in 1957. He lived in Wintringham (Manor Farm) all his life and married Phyllis Jarvis.
An email from Kitty Thackray, 14 June 2019
The latest adventure from Kitty, aged 87, who has been up in a microlight to raise money for MS Research. "That was on 21 May. I can now say that, with the help of my loyal supporters, we raised £2555, excluding gift aid which is unquantifiable until HMRC has had its red pen to work. That £10K grand total since 2007 may not have quite been reached, but it is pretty near. " More on Kitty's adventures, and some of her memories of life as a young girl in World War II.
An email from Alfie Abbott on 30 May 2019
Alfie added another name to the list of those on the trip to Rievaulx Abbey. Sandra Banks on the far right of the photo. Alfie remains in contact with some schoolfriends in the Whitby area.

Just a note to say that I was delighted to see my late mother (Hilda Holtby) in the 1930s photos from Joyce Jackson that you recently put on the website. Joyce and my mum were great friends, and they both kept in touch with Nellie Beckett, who eventually moved to Nantwich (her husband worked for BR at Crewe – in timetabling, I think). The two trips mentioned (Hull and Liverpool) both stuck in my mum’s mind - quite a change from Huttons Ambo – and the ‘Auction of Slaves’ poster that she presumably picked up in the Wilberforce Museum in Hull I still have somewhere. Thank you once again for all your work in keeping memories alive: very much appreciated.
Margaret Darley (nee Kitching) emailed on 15 February 2019
Margaret was at Malton County Modern 1963 - 67, and her father was at MGS in the 1920s - she spotted him on the 1926 Malton Grammar School photo. She has been the Head's secretary at King James School, Knaresborough until 2016, and is currently involved with the alumni and website. King James School is not quite as old as Malton School, having been founded in 1616 - so they celebrated their 400th anniversary a couple of years ago. Her paternal grandfather, Percy, had six or seven siblings all in the general area of Old Malton (where they ran the local Post Office), and also Coneysthorpe and York. Her father, Arthur, and uncle, Henry, both attended MGS. Margaret was the only child (born 1952) and as a girl did not carry the surname forward - much to her father's disgust!,

Howard sent a clipping from the Yorkshire Gazette, 1913. It reports on the Grammar School's move towards financial self sufficiency two years after opening, on the change from 2 houses to 4, and the development of a horticultural facility.

Howard sent a photo he had spotted on Middlesbrough Memories website of Newlands School evacuees who were at Malton in 1941. Also a programme for The Critic, staged at MGS in 1956.
Chloe Skinner sent two photos in December 2018.
Chloe's dad Howard died recently, and she has been looking through his photos. She sent a couple of photos of him in the Chariot Race at Malton Grammar School in the late 1960s.
Howard Campion forwarded two photos in December 2018
From the Woodhams-Stone collection, a postcard showing what was probably Room 5 (now room 35), next to the woodwork room, probably in the 1930s? Any information welcome. Howard also sent a photo of a postcard showing the front of Malton Grammar School, again probably in the 1930s.

From the Woodhams-Stone collection via Jim Rooney, described as 1930s, though I think it is later, more like 1950s. A group on the field outside what was Room 5, (now Room 35) probably on a sports day or sporting event? Posted on the 1950s page until more information is forthcoming.
